Whirling Dervish produces warehouse electronic events in Denver — extended sets, serious sound, rooms built for dancing. Kaz Qamruddin (Brown Elvis) and Casey Stongle (Mental 69) started the company in 2016 after decades of throwing parties in this city, including the Roofless years and a 1998 Sasha & Digweed night at The Moon. Today that lineage lives at ReelWorks in RiNo: long sets, high-end production, and a floor that still feels like a warehouse.

Denver has always had the dancers. What it didn’t always have was a consistent home for the artists those dancers actually wanted to see — the long-set, heads-down electronic music that doesn’t work in a bottle-service club.

Kaz Qamruddin and Casey Stongle had been throwing those parties separately for years. Kaz, as Brown Elvis, had been booking and building rooms in Denver since the ’90s. Casey, as Mental 69, came up through the same underground building The Fantastic Hosts.

In 2016 they put the work under one name. Casey once said working with Kaz was like working with a whirling dervish. The name stuck. The mark is a spinning WD for a reason.

The thread goes further back than the company. On September 26, 1998, Sasha and John Digweed played a Roofless Productions night at The Moon. That recording still exists. Sasha kept coming back. So did Digweed, Hernán Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Carl Cox, Deep Dish, and a long list of people who treat a warehouse like a proper instrument: three-, five-, seven-hour sets, not a festival slot.

Whirling Dervish was built to make that night possible in Denver on purpose — clean rooms, real security, drinks that aren’t an afterthought, and production that matches the records. Most of that now happens at ReelWorks in RiNo, including the L-Acoustics system in the room. The brief has not changed: adults on a dance floor, music first, all night if the artist wants it.

Ten years in, the guest list is the proof. The job is still the same night we were chasing in 1995.
